Gifting Unwrapped - Creative Alternatives to Traditional Gift Wrap

Now, don't misunderstand me. I LOVE a good wrapping paper. In fact, my closet is full of it as I type this. There's just something about a perfectly creased edge and folded flap that makes my brain say 'ahhhhhhhhh!'.

But there are times where a basic wrap job just won't cut it. Perhaps I can't find a box the right size for a round or odd shaped gift. Or maybe my 8 year old used up all of the tape building a laser obstacle course out of yard in the hallway (again.) Or maybe I just feel like thinking outside the box today. Whatever the case may be, try these perfectly fun alternatives for wrapping that perfect gift:

1. Replace the paper wrapping and adhesive tape with fabric and ribbon. Cloth napkins are a perfect option, extra points if they are part of the gift too!

Fabric is a great option when wrapping a round or odd-shaped gift. Look how cuuuuuute!

2. Replace the cardboard box with a beautiful metal tin or hat box.

A little something about me: I am a garage sale and flea market GIRLIE. And while I'm perusing the secondhand wonders, I find myself especially drawn to metal tins and empty hat boxes. They're just so irresistible! Trouble is, I don't have room for that many receptacles in my home decor scheme and my basement storage was getting a little cramped. Then, lightbulb! I started using these as an alternative to cardboard boxes. And since they're already pretty as can be, wrapping paper is a unneeded redundancy. And if that hasn't tipped you in favor of using these for your gift wrangling needs, how's this last bit? You can easily find them for a buck or two each at a garage sale or thrift store, making them potentially a lot less expensive than a gift bag.

Leave it au naturel or add a ribbon for a little more pizzaz!

3. Let part of the gift BE the box!

Metal and wicker baskets are practical and useful; a gift any recipient will appreciate. While you're shopping for your gift, pick out the perfect basket to put it all in. And don't worry that the contents are visible. That's part of the fun!

Or get even more creative! A baker friend can never have enough measuring cups, amiright?! And now you have a built in gift receptacle, and it even comes with a handle! How perfect!

4. Lastly, personalize it!

Oh yeah? Bags are boring? Not when you personalize them with your own art. Get creative and add that extra bit of love!

Go forth and gift well, friends!
